Want to enjoy the pleasures of multiday backpacking in the wilderness without having to carry a heavy pack every day? This trip is for you! We fly out on a helicopter to hike into the heart of the Coast Mountains, in Southern Yukon, before flying back 6 days later on a floatplane.

Itinerary

Upon arrival in Whitehorse, you take the free shuttle to get to your hotel (right there when you exit the terminal). Note that we always try and book hotels which offers the free shuttle but in case there is no more availability, there are always taxis available to drive you downtown (count approximately $25 for a ride from the airport to your hotel). Depending on your arrival time, you will have time to explore Whitehorse and take a stroll on the Millennium Trail or check out the MacBride Museum.

A pre-trip meeting takes place in the lobby of your hotel at 5pm today with your guides. This is the perfect opportunity to ask any last-minute questions, do a gear check and meet your fellow adventurers!

Night in a hotel in Whitehorse

This morning we drive to the airport and fly out, with a helicopter, into the wilderness.

The flight lasts approximately 20 minutes and offers spectacular views over Whitehorse area and the mountains to the south-west of the city you will not soon forget.

Once the helicopter has left and silence is back, we set up our first camp and enjoy our first hike together in the Coast Mountains.

Lunch and Dinner

Night in a tent

On day 2 we go on a day hike around our camp. We walk in the beautiful alpine where we try to spot local wildlife such as grizzly bears, moose, Dall sheep, caribou, etc. The higlight of the day will be the stunning views we will get from Rosette peak.

On day 3, we pack all our gear and leave nothing behind as we hike over to another camp. It is a rather short hike over the alpine and down to a lake where we set our second camp.

From there we explore the mountains for the next 2 days, on day hikes. Once again enjoying endless views over alpine meadows, high snowy peaks in the background and the beautiful Primrose lake from where we will take off on our last day.

Nights in a tent

For our last day in the mountain wilderness, we hike, fully loaded, down to Primrose Lake where a float plane is waiting for us. Most of the day is downhill, and the views on the lake and the mountains around it are gorgeous.

Once again we fly for 20 to 30 minutes over the mountains and land near Whitehorse, on Schwatka Lake. We drop you off at your hotel for a well-deserved shower!

Tour Reviews

I can’t say enough about our experience this summer with Terre Boreale. My son and I experienced a six day adventure in the Coast Mountains with Max.
This company really lives the leave no trace and respect for our environment to the fullest extent, from homemade meals, to wildlife viewing and routes without human impacted trails.
Every day captured inspiring challenges, both physical and mental, with rewarding views that photos just couldn’t justify.
We both learned so much over the course of our trek. It was gratifying to build on our knowledge, yet empty our minds of regular life at home.
We would highly recommend Terre for anyone interested in this kind of adventure – you will not regret it!

“We spent 2 weeks in the Yukon with Max in June, a week in the coast mountains and a week travelling up the Dempster highway, stopping off at Tombestone for some hiking. The coast mountains are a magical place made all the more special by Max’s thoughtful itinerary. The landscape and walking were spectacular and we didn’t see a single person all week, just lots of wildlife. Throughout the trip we were well looked after and provided with excellent home cooked food. We have travelled a lot and this trip is one of our favourites, from the destination itself through to the knowledge and enthusiasm of the guides. The Yukon is a wonderful part of the world and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it as a destination with Max and Milena as guides.”
